Founded by Henry Steinway (born Heinrich Steinweg) in 1853, Steinway and Sons has been the "gold standard" in pianos for well over 100 years. Their primary factory in Long Island City, New York, was opened in the late nineteenth century, and many of the original buildings along the street that is now called Steinway Place, are still in use. All Steinway pianos are still hand-buit by highly skilled workers using many of hte old-world processes and techniques taht were used by Henry Steinway and his sons.

This is a Model O (5' 11") that was completed on February 8, 1913 and initially sold by Grinnell Brothers, a Steinway dealer in Detroit Michigan, in March 1913. It has a mahogany finish that is in great shape and should not need refinishing. All components are original and in need of updating if the instrument is to be played. There is a sizeable chip in the veener just to the left of the keyboard. The piano could be playable with only minor refurbishment, but we would prefer to restore it to its original glory.

Belly analysis: Pinblock and bridges look perfect. Soundboard has some cracks, but could probably go without replacement. We will be able to more closely inspect this upon disassembling the instrument. If original soundboard is retained, humidity control will be necessary after restoration.
